Change the World: A Night of Dancing and Giving Back at Sweetwater Music Hall
Some nights out are just a good time. Others are a good time with a purpose. The Change the World Benefit Concert at Mill Valley’s Sweetwater Music Hall is one of the second kind. It’s an evening of live music, dancing, and community, and every ticket helps young artists build a better future.
Music With a Mission
The concert raises funds for the Subvers!ve Music Foundation, a nonprofit created in loving memory of Harrison Dunnett. Harrison was a Bay Area singer, songwriter, rapper, and producer who performed under the name “Subvers!ve,” and his life was cut short at just 20 years old. You can still listen to his music on SoundCloud.
His family started the foundation to carry his passion forward. Today, it supports underprivileged young musicians who create positive, drug-free, non-violent music. It also raises awareness about the dangers of prescription drugs and the need for greater accountability in addiction treatment. The foundation’s motto sums it up well: changing the world one song at a time.
What to Expect
This isn’t a sit-quietly-in-your-seat kind of show. So bring your dancing shoes. The night features a Grammy- and Emmy-winning headliner, Narada Michael Walden, known for producing hits for legends like Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, and Sting. In addition to the music, guests can bid on items in a live auction, with proceeds going straight to the cause.
Why It Matters
Behind every ticket is a young artist who gets the chance to share a positive message through music. Just as importantly, each one supports an important conversation about the risks of prescription drug misuse and about safer care for people seeking treatment.
