Playing Poker for a Great Cause at Sweetwater Music Hall

Some nights remind you why showing up matters. On Friday, September 13, 2024, we spent one of those nights at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, playing poker for the Subversive Music Foundation.

An Evening Built Around a Good Cause

The Casino Night had something for everyone. Along with the main event, a poker tournament, guests could try their luck at blackjack and roulette. Beginners were welcome, too. In fact, the evening opened with a cocktail party and a short poker lesson before the tournament began.

Of course, the best part was where the money went. Guests played for luxury getaways and other prizes, and all proceeds went straight to the Foundation.

Why the Subvers!ve Music Foundation Matters

The Subversive Music Foundation was created in loving memory of Harrison James Dunnett, known to many as “Subvers!ve.” He was a Bay Area singer, songwriter, rapper, and producer who grew up in Marin County. Fittingly, Sweetwater Music Hall was one of the last venues where he performed.

Today, the Foundation carries his legacy forward by helping young people create respectful, non-violent, drug-free music. To that end, it offers studio time, scholarships, and performance opportunities. You can also listen to Harrison’s music on the Foundation’s site.
